** Seminar One- Tuesday October 16th 10am – 3pm **

                     Preparing Post Secondary Counsellors for the Academic year

 

  • What required documents do you need from your students so that you are able to effectively monitor them and assist with their academics throughout the year ?.
  • Transcripts are extremely important and can tell us the progress of our students as well as a lot of information if they are read properly.
  • Grade 12, GED, University transcripts
  • I have many examples to share with you, many different transcripts, and how we can begin to counsel academically and personally based on the marks.
  • Registration of classes are the reason we are sponsoring our students, so how come many counsellors still do not require the Registration ?
  • Acceptance letters also provide information that we should be carefully reading and taking the information provided, I have many different examples to share.
  • Tracking Sheet of courses our students are registered and the importance of keeping it in their files Students / Counsellors.
  • How important are Career Goals to state on the Application?
  • How they state and write their Career Goals also gives us hints of what we should be watching out for. I have examples of Excellent Career Goals and poorly thought out Career Goals.
  • Objective of this seminar is to share wit you many ways to be more effective and to utilize the information to the best advantage for our students.
  • You will take home valuable information that will result in you being able to be an excellent counsellor both Academically and Professionally.   
  • Always room for Bear Pit discussions of any situations that is causing you and or students concern.

Finances regarding students / administration, Policy, Communication

 

  • How has the Rental Increase and High Cost areas affected your students?
  • Share with you some ideas of how some First Nations are dealing with the increase Also with the Housing Shortage and the impact on our students
  • Discussions on the Pros and Cons of the Flat Rate Allowance.
  • Discussions on how other First Nations are handling their Lack of Funds.
  • Counsellors need to be better prepared or both the Academic and Personal Counselling in order to assist our students.
  • Will address any questions you may have regarding the Policy Manuals / concerns.
  • Priorities of Students approval for Funding
  • *Are all  the GR 12 s getting Funded? No they are not , what is happening?
